You wont see a huge amount of posts on this blog regarding bands, not because I am not a fan of Indie and Rock and the like, but more because I feel I don't really need to cover a style of music that gets a hell of a lot of press and media coverage anyway and could spend my time better concentrating on exposing some fresh as fuck or overloooked electronic artists.
Towards the end of last year I discovered Passion Pit, who are a different kettle of fish, due to the fact that they are a band obviously in touch with their electronic side and are a band who a lot of people are still unaware of when I ask them if they have heard of them.
Formed in the USA in Massachusetts, the band originally started as lead singer Michael Angelakos creating a one man solo project, writing and recording tracks as a Valentines Day gift for his girlfriend at the time. A full band then formed, a debut EP was released which then spread like wildfire in the college Michael was attending, containing the 'Sleepyhead' track, which then found bigger fame after being used in a slew of advertising campaigns in numerous countries.
I'm not too big a fan of that style of Bee Gee esque warbling, so the thing I find most surprising about the band is the fact that the really high pitched vocals don't get on my nerves, in fact they are immense, and along with the amazing synths that the band use sound perfect.
A most definite key to why I like some of the bands other songs is the use of a kid's choir, a sound I love and the use of which I have noticed has become more prevelant in the past few years in some popular music, especially with some of the better, more electronically leaned groups. Some of the best examples I have posted below.
I suggest you go out and purchase Passion Pits debut album 'Manners' immediately, is really is up there with one of the best albums a band has produced in a long time and deserves your full attention.
